The London Loom is the home of freestyle weaving in London. Why? Because we’re ace – just ask our customers, last week someone hugged us on her way out and said “That was my dream night”, thanks Sally, you’re our dream too.
Our studio is pretty magnificent, we have over 400 yarns for you to play with, there are loads of natural fibres to choose from but also a heck ton of neon eyelash yarns and pom pom yarns from Japan to experiment with.
In this Beginners Tapestry Workshop we will cover all the basics you need to get you started on your weaving journey. You will learn how to dress your loom with a suitable warp, how to weave your first rows of plain weave with our special ‘no weaving in the ends’ technique, how to tabby weave in various ways to create shapes and curves, the beautiful soumac stitch and the rya knot (the tassel fringe).
We don’t expect you to finish your piece in the class because this is a slow and meditative craft, so we make sure you have everything you need to carry on weaving at home.
This is a two hour workshop and is perfect for beginners. You will be provided with a loom 9″ x 12″crafted by a local joiner especially for The London Loom, warp thread, needle, tapestry comb and instructional booklet, which you will be able to take away with you, so you can practice your new hobby at home.
Once you have been to our Beginners Tapestry Workshop, you are welcome to come along to our Tapestry Club . In this class, we can show you in a more intimate setting, more stitches like loopy or interlocking and give you some top tips to get your selvedges neat and straight and how to finish and remove your tapestry from the loom and attach it to a stick.
