Ever walked through the marble gallery in the V&A and been all ‘cool sculptures bro…where’s the colour at!’? We have. We don’t condone graffiti – unless it’s like very clever, or neon, or our faces. We do however condone embroidery and embellishment and injecting colour wherever we can and that’s what this workshop is all about!
We’ve joined forces with the Royal Society of Sculptors to bring you one very special night of embellishment and embroidery. We’ve selected sculptures and photographs from the Society house archives and printed them up onto cloth for you to inject with colour. We will show you the best embroidery and embellishment techniques to make the snazziest, most fabulous pieces of textile art for you to take home and hang with pride.
We have printed up a a big collection of images for you to choose from and colour in. This workshop is so relaxing, just fill in and liven up the image you’ve chosen with simple stitches of bright thread. We’ve also included some stunning images of the actual house that the Society has been based in since the 1960s, bequeathed to the Society by the late sculptor Cecil Thomas OBE FRBS. Cecil will appear in the prints too – he’s actually been a favourite of ours to practice our stitches on.
This class includes the prices of all the materials and equipment, including the 22cm hoop which you can hang your art in when it is finished. You will need to embellish your cloth print with. We will talk you through how to start and then you are free to freestyle the evening away – with the help of the bar that the Society are providing for us! This is going to be a really lovely evening, if you’ve never been to the house to check out the Society collections, you will be blown away by how beautiful the windows and fixtures are, it’s a lovely space and we can’t wait to take you there for a night of embellishment and colour!
